Gregg Alexander begins his eighteenth-year coaching in the Railer program and his fifteenth as head sophomore coach. Gregg is remembered by many as one of the finest players to ever wear a Railer uniform. His list of accomplishments rivals that of any athlete in the school’s history. He is LCHS’s all-time leading scorer, our all-time leading free throw shooter, our all-time leader in steals, an IBCA First Team All-Stater, and a three-time first team Central State Eight All-Conference Selection. He averaged 23.7 points a game his senior year and 18.8 for a career. In ’98 he was a team leader that led the Railers to a 30-win season and an IHSA State Tournament appearance. Gregg excelled at the Divison I level as well. He was a 4-year starter at Illinois State University and remains second on the Redbirds’ all-time 3-point shooting list. Last year, Coach Gregg’s sophomores posted an impressive 25-2 record and won the Taylorville Sophomore Tournament. Gregg is a physical education teacher and the Physical Education Department Liaison here at LCHS. He and his wife Nicole are proud parents of three sons: 8-year-old Eli, 6-year-old Nash, and 2-year-old Beckett.
